This is a comprehensive and accessible resource which will be invaluable as we seek to build pupils' vocabulary in KS3. The range of texts (with varying difficulty) is particularly useful, since it provides the teacher with flexibility in selecting suitable extracts to explore for vocabulary building... Not only do the activities involve some definition work, but also have writing activities that incorporate the vocabulary tasks. Although sometimes, vocabulary resources appear 'standalone' and disconnected from writing and reading skills, this resource provides regular links between vocabulary and the subject skills... As a teacher and KS3 lead, this provides a comprehensive set of engaging and accessible extracts with a range of activities to work with through a class. For the students, it will give them the confidence to experiment with more complex vocabulary throughout KS3, which will hopefully pay dividends as they move into KS4... It can be difficult to find relevant extracts to base vocabulary work off - and then even more challenging to then prepare a set of differentiated activities that engage students. This resource does just that... A very engaging and worthwhile resource.
The pack was full of effective, challenging, diverse tasks to extend students' vocabulary based on popular literature. I loved the variety and entertainment value that was integral to the vocabulary tasks. There were basic visual identification tasks as well as activities that contextualised words, making students show their comprenhension of new vocabulary.
A well-constructed resource... definitely enhances vocabulary... lends itself to better language usage with the modelled paragraphs and sentences... will improve writing quality... the layout was good and user friendly... helps with most of the writing assessment foci, especially WAF – using imaginative vocabulary.
A much-needed resource. There are few comprehensive vocabulary focused packs on the market. This is certainly something I would buy... I liked the range of activities and the range of vocabulary covered. It is quite challenging and the learning is re-enforced with different activities to help cement the vocabulary... developing vocabulary is an often overlooked aspect of English teaching... this resource brings the focus nicely back to vocabulary but in context with other skills... Excellent varied resource with differentiated activities. I like the wordsearches/crosswords/cloze to consolidate language.
I liked the activities related to the novels with various language/vocabulary extension lessons related to each one. Key words and particular language in the passages to pick out and learn, is particularly good as the new words are contextual.
