Jason and the Argonauts: KS3 Scheme of Work

A 10-lesson scheme of work created for mixed ability sets.

Only the most exciting sections of Jason and the Argonauts have been selected as the intention is pupils should become enthused with one of the oldest stories of our European literary heritage, with the hope that this will encourage them to extend their reading to cover texts that are not ordinarily encountered in an everyday school setting.

A good deal of opportunity for pupils to explore the themes of 'Jason and the Argonauts'...

...Lots of writing frames and other scaffolding to enable less-able pupils to achieve...

...Makes a potentially difficult subject, Greek literature, accessible. It may pique the interest of pupils to delve further

  • A good balance of reading and writing activities with writing frames included where needed.

What do teachers say about this resource? (4196)

Offers many opportunities for personalisation and project work ... it really helps to work on communicative competence... a complete and useful resource for the teacher and motivating for the students

Well resourced and well researched ... I was very impressed with the scheme that has potential to last longer than the 8 lessons suggested. There was a good deal of opportunity for pupils to explore the themes of 'Jason and the Argonauts'. There are also lots of writing frames and other scaffolding to enable those less-able pupils to achieve. The resource makes a potentially difficult subject, Greek literature, accessible. It may pique the interest of pupils to delve further into this genre ... It provides pupils with the opportunity to look at how we can use powerful adjectives and adverbs to improve our writing.

I liked the variety of activities paired with the clear reference to the assessment focuses.

The tasks were creative in nature and would provide a mixture of fun but educational activities to engage KS3 pupils. The mixture of fiction and non-fiction inspired activities would be very useful to cover many different text types. The focus on language work is also very good.
