This is a valuable resource which teachers and students would find extremely useful for exam preparation. It is very well presented and particularly student friendly. Intermittently visual diagrams and illustrations help break up the text - together with a range of subheadings, enhancing accessibility.
It provides interesting and relevant insight into the plot and Haddon's motivation for writing the novel. The biographical and chapter summaries were useful. It addresses key themes and structural aspects of the text that students need to be familiar with in order to meet the Assessment Objectives laid down by the examination board.
I liked the fact that the chapter summaries were very detailed - ideal for revision. I thought the notes were organised very well. It was an attractive and rather appealing pack and I'd have no hesitation in saying that students would like it too.
The resource is written in a very clear and simple style. It covers a range of aspects related to the text of which the in-depth analysis of chapters is extremely useful and highly relevant. The 'key questions' sections are really good, as is the use of images to help those pupils who are visual learners.
The author of this resource clearly has a very good knowledge and understanding of the novel. This comes across in the depth of analysis and explanation evident in most sections of the resource... I found the context sections useful, particularly the Literary Context section. The main body of the resource is an incredibly detailed chapter-by-chapter analysis with some directed questions and debate pointers for students. This section would be very useful for both students and teachers new to the text... and the essay questions / exam-style question at the end would be useful for students following that particular spec... An extremely detailed general A Level study guide.
Has a very student-friendly style and would be easy for any student at AS Level to read. The author's enjoyment of the text is clear and the reader's interest in the text and the themes and topics within the text is ignited... Enables students to further revise their knowledge of the novel and makes them consider important areas such as themes, characters and genre so that students are prepared for the examination... The sections on 'Social and Historical Contexts' are useful in enabling students to prepare themselves for their responses to texts in the second year of the course... The resource is a great aid for students as they revise the text for examination.
Comprehensive & helpful. This resource enhances learning by helping students understand more fully what they have read allowing discussion of finer points & literary techniques.
A pleasing resource... Well organised, with effective chapter summaries which will serve students well. I like the debate points, which could provide some lively debate.
