Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Weaker Learner Support Pack for GCSE

  • Aim 1 – Engage weaker learners with the text – characters speak directly to students to summarise the plot before and after reading the text.
  • Aim 2 – Support their understanding of key literary aspects – worksheets with stimulating and well-pitched activities to engage students with main events, all key characters, major themes, form, structural features, and language. Plus a PowerPoint presentation exploring key contextual points.
  • Aim 3 – Consolidate their knowledge ready for an exam – all activities are cross-referenced to GCSE AOs so that you can choose the right worksheet for your students regardless of exam board.

The resource is pitched at those students who like English but find it difficult, and those who are indifferent.

This resource can be used immediately and also when the upcoming changes happen making it invaluable to English departments. K Greaves, English Teacher & Independent Reviewer

What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5609)
"This resource can be used immediately and also when the upcoming changes happen making it invaluable to English departments. It is a flexible resource which is clearly presented making it useful to new and experienced members of staff. There are graded examples for various exam boards which students will find especially useful. I like the notes on the tasks as it explains how they could be delivered to classes and they clearly explain the purpose of the tasks." K Greaves, English Teacher
"A fantastically detailed resource with a multitude of uses - as a basis for writing a scheme, as cover work, to help a teacher new to the text or to delve into for revision lessons. Although aimed at weaker learners it is also a fantastic springboard and starting point for the more able. It enables students to access and learn a difficult text." P Town, English Teacher
"This would be a really helpful scheme of work to use with my bottom set. We’re currently studying J&H and they have struggled to understand the basic plot and interpret the Victorian language. There are a number of resources here that I would use to help overcome this. I also liked the range of creative tasks, encouraging students to actively engage with the text. The resource would be helpful for giving a route into the novel and ensuring understanding." S Walton, English Teacher
