GCSE AQA A Learning Grids

A brilliant new idea designed to support weaker students. Students have to read their textbook/notes to complete a grid of questions in exact specification order. Cross-referenced for 4 of the most popular GCSE AQA A textbooks to ensure a structured reading of the text.

Cross Referenced against:
  • Understanding GCSE Geography for AQA Specification A, by Ann Bowen and John Pallister (Heinemann, 2009, ISBN 978-0-435353-30-8)
  • AQA Geography A by Judith Canavan, Alison Rae and Simon Ross (Nelson Thornes, 2009, ISBN 978-1-4085-0271-6)
  • geog.GCSE by Anna King, Catherine Hurst, John Edwards, Chris Stevens and Jack Mayhew (Oxford University Press, 2006, ISBN 0-19-913466-9)
  • GCSE geography AQA A by Catherine Hurst, Jane Holroyd, Steve Rickerby, Jack Gillett and Meg Gillett (Oxford University Press, 2011, ISBN 978-0-19-913549-3)

A godsend for those students who find learning difficult and motivates the less willing. Leads to active learning, identification of key points & the structuring of information.

  • The structured method of learning grids is of great value to students, especially if they find it difficult to absorb all the information in class.
  • Case study factsheets for all required case studies.
  • Engaging diagrams break up text and engage visual learners.
  • Fills in the gaps to ensure the whole specification is covered!

  • An easy-to-set, yet valuable homework option.
  • Requires minimal preparation and interaction from the teacher ó great for cover lessons!
  • Results in a comprehensive set of revision notes.

What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5176)
"I like the fact that it is very 'student friendly'. It is easy to read and understand what should be done. Clear diagrams are included. The references to textbooks are huge time savers and allow students to start to become more independent learners. This could be used as a revision resource or to support weaker students as a way of consolidating knowledge after each lesson." - K. Rush, Head of Humanities and Independent Reviewer
What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5174)
I am very impressed with this resource overall - it is very accessible and easy to understand. For someone who isnít a Geography specialist and has been asked to teach this with little preparation time before hand, I have found these a god send in many ways!My students found that the learning grids were easy to follow and gave them a really simple but firm focus. They had a sense of pride at the end of their work as it was laid out neatly and it was something that they could use in their revisionI would certainly consider purchasing this resource for use without any hesitation at all - D Taborda , Teacher and Independent Reviewer
What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5175)
excellent. It is something different from what is already available, and a real time saver...It allows students to get a chance to develop their answering techniques in a clear and structured manner. This could be set for homework, or as a end of unit test. - P Hunt, Head of Department, Teacher and Independent Reviewer
What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5464)
Excellent. I liked the inquiry aspect of the resource, it encouraged students to question everything related to the topic. I think this resource has educational value as it encourages the students to think for themselves and work independently. The links to online sources of material is also an excellent idea. - C Goewey, independent Teacher and Reviewer
What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5580)
The resource is well planned and sets about challenging pupils of all abilities. I particularly liked the range of comprehension activities throughout the booklet. The activities themselves are inherently differentiated offering pupils of all abilities a chance to be challenged. -G. Dhaliwal, Head of Geography & Independent Reviewer.
'Excellent. It fulfilled the teacherís brief which specified in which ways it would be useful... Very good as homeworks and as a resource for weaker students. I particularly liked the mark scheme as it is a very useful crib resource for students. Useful too if they did not do the work initially very well. The content of the mark scheme was accessible for the students to use... Students can access it using the VLE so it is excellent for those missed lessons... Crisp layout that can be completed by hand or electronically as the student requires... they match the text book that we have.'– S Knights, Geography Teacher & Independent Reviewer
'A great resource with lts of variety in the style of questioning. The individual boxes for each question really help students focus and identify the different sections... I really liked the use of graphs and images - great for visual learners. Many students do not really read the questions correctly and the colourful images makes it more appealing and easier to read... Great as a homework task, also as an individual task then to improve answers as part of a group. I have used the other learning grids as a pick and mix for starter tasks and take-away tasks. My students really like them... they are in [specification] sections. Therefore you can divide up the girds and give as home-learning.'– C Cottam, Head of Geography & Independent Reviewer
What do teachers have to say about this resource? (5360)
I like the structure of the resource, and the students found the layout easy to follow and use. I feel that the resource helped my students to prepare for their up coming exam in Tourism. The questions are closely matched and the teacher answers allow the students to self or peer assess their work. - P Hunt, Teacher and Independent Reviewer
