AQA A Lit: The Struggle for Identity: Wider Reading for A Level

A rich teaching pack which supports Unit 1 AQA A Wider Reading and encourages students to question identity, to compare genres and to prepare for Section A of their examination. Our pack offers you a wide range of extracts which extends your students’ reading and provides them with the tools to relate the non-fiction extract in the exam to their wider reading more easily.

The extracts are varied and well-chosen and I love the repeated structure of Annotation>Notes>Further Tasks>Further Reading

Extracts have been carefully collated and divided into poetry, prose and drama with stimulating exercises, reducing the preparation time for teachers. The strength of this resource is the wide range of texts used and its clear structure. As all extracts have been carefully selected, they can easily complement the classroom and homework activities.

Extracts from texts such as:
  • Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen
  • The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
  • We Need to Talk About Kevin by L Shriver
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by K Kensey
  • ...and more!

Plus perfect exam preparation including three planning tables, practice questions and model answers, exam checklist and cheat sheet of key features of the different genres.

Easy to use, saves times for teachers and excellent for independent study

An inspiring and challenging study pack. The extracts are varied and well-chosen and I love the repeated structure of Annotation>Notes>Further Tasks>Further Reading. This will be great for students' prep for each lesson, and for session routine. The final two pages are great - nothing beats a decent FAQ page and a simple but encouraging record page to get the brain juices flowing. Massively detailed and really thorough.

A really good resource - it included a number of excellent activities and passages... I really liked the exam material and the overviews – this provides a really handy way for students to check that they have produced work which covers the breadth of this era and concept. It is certainly an effective resource to enhance learning – it systematically explores facets of the course well and provides a wealth of different extracts and activities... The layout was good – particularly easy to follow... A super resource and a fantastic time saver for teachers unable to readily find wider reading extracts.

This is a really useful resource for this challenging unit of the A Level specification. It provides students with careful guidance on how to prepare for the unit, in terms of how to organize their wider reading and how to make sure that they have synthesized their knowledge and understanding.

All-encompassing of the modern literature and it helps avoids hours of planning.

The resource is excellent for getting students to question identity and to not see it as something fixed, but rather as something that changes over time. This resource encourages students to read widely as it includes a wide variety of texts, but it also uses other mediums, such as interactive sites like Youtube.

The resource includes a good variety of texts and extracts and doesn't just rely on the usuals that often turn up in anthologies! The balance between poetry, drama and prose is pleasing, as the genres are covered equally... I particularly liked the structure of the resource. It is very useful to have it divided into the three genres as this would be helpful to be able to dip into... the emphasis on links to the exam criteria was good as it was very focused on what to do in the exam... the model answer and sample questions were very good and would be very helpful to show to students. This is something that students really benefit from... helps students to be very aware of the difference in genres thanks to the clear division of different sections. It helps them to be aware of what is expected in the exam and how to approach the assessment. There is a good emphasis on the mark scheme, exam structure and it is clear that this is a consideration throughout. As students need to do a lot of wider reading for this course, it will also enhance learning by providing students with a variety and selection of texts.
