History Dialogues

The Outbreak of World War Two and the Rise of the Nazis

'I believe that in the one year that Mr. Nicklin taught me, I learnt more about analysing history and presenting facts in a coherent un- biased way than ever before.'
A Kanoria, Student

How does it work?

A revolutionary teaching idea which encourages independent investigation and active learning through the unique ‘dialogues’ approach. Working through paired texts, students highlight, debate and categorise the differences (factual, bias, linguistic), developing critical thinking and evaluative skills. Set of ten lessons.

What does it do?   Teacher N Shepley took a test drive...

'Because it is in essence an activity based exercise there was a lot of very effective active learning taking place. At the end of the lesson pupils had clearly been engaged by the resource…. They also seemed to have really enjoyed the exercise and found it stimulating, different and challenging. In my opinion the resource, which was simple for students to understand, met all the criteria of a really good classroom tool and the learning outcomes were very positive.'

For each of the ten key areas addressed, resources include:
  • Detailed teacher’s notes
  • The ‘right’ answer for students to take home.
  • Differentiated end of topic tests for each section

What do teachers have to say about this resource? (4301)
Offers real insight into the nature of history study, especially the idea that history is not completely about facts. The nature of truth is a difficult concept to teach and this illustrates it well R Symth, Independent Reviewer
I liked the opportunity to discuss and recognise that History is all about interpretation.H Saker-Parsons, History Teacher
