What do teachers have to say about this resource? (4003)
"Creative plus interesting accessible activities." M Macmillan, English Teacher and Satisfied Customer
"Its good value for money and pupil friendly." C Wheatley, English teacher and satisfied customer
'There were a good range of activities to engage all students. I liked the various types of thinking skills required to respond to the tasks and questions set throughout the resource. I feel it makes the learner reflect upon aspects of language, form and structure in an appropriate level of detail and gives comprehensive coverage of the novel. It was carefully matched to the spec and I was particularly pleased that the author had made a realistic consideration of the level of detail you would require for the section of the syllabus now that the weightings have changed.' T Kenney, English Teacher, Independent Reviewer
'I think it's great that it's been mapped to the AOs and the range of activities is engaging and varied. It really encourages students to think for themselves and it does so in a way that learners will be engaged. The open-ended nature of many of the activities means that it is great for mixed-ability groups and the sheets themselves allow for the building up of materials that can easily be used for revision purposes. Really good. What sets it apart is the detailed matching of the AOs to the activities — this would cut down tons of planning time.' A Baiden, English Teacher and Independent Reviewer
'Clearly matches objectives and new specs as the way students have to think about characters and concepts has changed slightly and this resource directs thinking and uses the appropriate new question styles.' P Ault, English Teacher and Independent Reviewer
'I like the mixture of activities that focus on recall, identification and thinking. The new GCSE will require individual student interpretation rather than a "taught" idea which was arguably the case for the old GCSE and there are opportunities within the resource to cover both existing and new specifications. I think this is better than the conventional "notes" that are available commercially. I think it will support both experienced teachers of the book and those who feel they need more ideas to create interesting activities.' C Allison, HoD and Independent Reviewer
'Excellent. This is the sort of pack where no other materials would be needed. There is a wide variety of tasks which would lend themselves to someone new to the text, an NQT or supply teacher as well, of course, to the experienced teacher. I liked how Assessment Objectives were referred to throughout and this really helps focus teachers on the skills being taught. The questions on the text we both insightful and challenging in making the students do some independent thinkin. I particularly liked the explanation and accompanying tasks on symbolism which is a difficult concept to explain at the best of times. This is ideal for all boards. The fact that reference is made to all the exam specifications for 2010 and sample exam questions are included help the teacher in planning in what is a rather packed schedule for the new specifications.'
