Practice Exercises for Translation Skills

For A Level German

66 interesting texts based on topics from the Edexcel A Level specification. These texts are used in three different ways:

  1. The texts are provided in English for students to translate.
  2. Each text has 3 German grammar exercises. These gap-fill exercises test different areas of grammar required by the A Level specification, such as tenses and agreement.
  3. The German texts are provided in full at the end of the resource, serving as examples for the translation exercises and the solution to the grammar exercises. This resource also features exam style translation grids for easy marking.

This resource has been created to specifically meet the requirements of Edexcel A2 Unit 4 Section A & supports Unit 4 Section C. It is a creative and versatile resource suitable for all A Level German students.

“This resource is innovative in bringing an element of fun by offering a series of 3 different exercises on the translation… the resource focuses on specific points such as tenses, articles or structural aspects such as syntax, relative pronouns etc. or spelling.” N Clarens, French teacher

Also available for A level French and Spanish

What do teachers have to say about this resource? (2998)
It is extremely useful. It is clear, thorough and well presented.S Fabbro, Customer
"Well worth buying... Wish I'd discovered it sooner!" — L Hampson, MFL Teacher at Polam Hall School, ZigZag Customer
"Saves a lot of your time in making up your own translations and varies in style. Well worth buying." — M Caddick, Head of German at Longridge Towers School, ZigZag Customer
"It's handy and useful. The different uses of the same text is practical and stimulating." — C Dunstall, Head of MFL at Burgate School and ZigZag Customer
"It is extremely well structured, deals with relevant topic area and teaches very important skills... I particularly liked its very concrete mark scheme which is as close as possible to the actual exam paper as well as its use of topic areas prescribed by the specification... It provides students with much needed opportunities to practice their translation skills on short texts that are very similar to the ones in the exam paper." — S Klabuhn, Teacher of German and Independent Reviewer
"Impressive! I had two pupils last year who wanted to become interpreters and it was very hard to find them appropriate material for personal studying. This would have been perfect!" — J Collins, Teacher of German and Independent Reviewer
"A good resource - and much needed as there are very few resources like this on the market and yet students are expected to be able to translate... A lot of work has been put into this resource - a lesson could be built around one text on its own." — F Bower, German Teacher and Independent Reviewer
"Very useful. Helps students to see exactly how to organise their answers and break them down into more manageable units." — C Parker, German Teacher and Independent Reviewer
