“The activities can be attempted in class and/or during the summer break...(the tasks) aim to instil a sense of confidence & achievement...The pack is also a useful tool for creating a dialogue with parents, with a number of tasks which allow parents to contribute to... (including) enabling (parents) to identify the child’s preferred learning style.” Mark Williams, author

“The tasks have been produced following discussions with primary and secondary colleagues to help pupils develop an understanding of the nature and relevance of History and initiate a passion for the subject.” Mark Williams, Author

A good mixture of fun and more serious activities, with snippets of fascinating information… This transition pack can be used no matter what the level of involvement with high school projects is. It has the added bonus of staff being able to say ‘we’re doing high school work now’ which is naturally far more interesting after SATs.” Jean Harris, experienced primary & secondary teacher

“I liked it. I think the whole idea of a bridging history package is very good and ideal resource for parents wanting to focus children’s time during the summer vacation & keep them in the rhythm of doing regular homework… I particularly liked the ‘History is about…’ headings as they focus the pupils’ learning… I think this resource enhances learning by explaining what history is with practical examples so pupils can discover the relevance of history to their lives for themselves… This resource shows how important History is and how the past can be used to improve our future.” Anita Loughery, Reviewer

What do teachers say about this resource? (2292)

Very useful as this is an area not always well covered in class texts.... Gives them the foundation – the language of the historian before they embark on studying an actual period.... Good for building confidence in young historians in yr7 who may not have studied the nuts and bolts of the subject in primary school.

I like it. I think the whole idea of a bridging history pack is very good... I particularly liked the "History is about" headings as it focuses the pupils' learning. There is also a very wide range of different types of activities.... This resource shows how important history is and how the past can be used to improve our future.

A good mixture of fun and more serious activities, with snippets of fascinating information. I particularly like that teachers can pick this up and use it quite easily. Many bridging units involve a lot of organisation and resources; this can be used no matter what the level of involvement with high school projects is. It has the added bonus of staff being able to say "we're doing high school work now" which is naturally far more interesting after SATs.
